Irenegarden is located in Lauvstad, beside the beautiful Dalsfjord and Voldsfjord in western Norway.
Surrounded by fjords and mountains in the far north, you might expect that getting here requires a long, complicated journey...?
- Well, it doesn’t!
With convenient flight connections and a rental car, you can leave a major European city in the morning and arrive at Irenegarden the early afternoon.
✈️ Fly→ 🚗 Pick up a rental car→ 🏡 Arrive at Irenegarden
Open year-round, flying is also an ideal choice outside summer, helping you avoid long drives and winter road conditions.
Here are a few examples of how quickly you can reach us from major European cities:
✈️ Frankfurt → HOV: From ~4.5 hrs total (via Oslo + 30 min drive)
Note: Travel times and flight schedules vary depending on the season, weekday, and connections.
It is also easy to do Zürich or many other European cities to HOV/AES via Amsterdam, Bergen or Oslo.
We recommend booking directly on official airline sites (Widerøe, KLM, Norwegian, or SAS):
Aim for daytime or early evening arrival: Try to avoid landing late at night. The last Volda - Lauvstad ferry usually departs around 23:20 from Volda. While there is a ferry-free detour around the fjord via Fyrde if you arrive late, catching the ferry during the day or early evening is much faster and easier.
There are two main airports serving our region:
✈️ HOV – Ørsta–Volda Airport (Closest – 30–40 min drive)
Our local airport with direct daily flights from Oslo and Bergen. Best for the fastest overall journey.
✈️ AES – Ålesund Airport (Direct international routes – 1.5 hr drive)
A larger regional airport with direct flights to European hubs like Amsterdam, Copenhagen, London, and Gdańsk.
Ferry prices: On regular ferries, you only pay for the vehicle, passengers travel for free! (Note: Commercial sightseeing/tourist ferries, like Geiranger - Hellesylt, are an exception and charge also passengers).
The Volda–Lauvstad ferry, for instance, costs only around €9 for a standard car (2026).
📍 Important tip for the Volda ferry quay:
When lining up at the ferry port in Volda, make sure to use the lanes on the right-hand side marked for Lauvstad. (The lanes on the left are for the ferry to Folkestad).
Fly closer. Pick up your car. Enjoy the view!
We look forward to welcoming you to Irenegarden!
